Prof. John (Younis) A. Katili

Prof. J. (Younis) Katili FIAS is an elected Fellow of the Islamic Academy of Sciences. He was born on 9 June 1929, is married and a father of two. He was an advisor to the Minister of Mines and Energy of Indonesia and Acting Vice-Chairman of the Indonesian National Research Council.

His most recent post was Vice-Chairman of the Indonesian Parliament.

Dr Katili obtained his MSc in Geology form the University of Indonesia (1956), DSc in Geology from the Institute of Technology, (ITB), Bandung (1960).

A professor of geology for over 40 years, Prof. Katili was educated at the Bandung Institute of Technology as well as at the University of Innsbruck in Austria.

Prof. Katili has written over 150 scientific and policy papers in English and Indonesian addressing a long list of topics. His contributions and achievements have been internationally recognized culminating in a doctorate Honoris Causa award by the University of Stockholm in 1988.
