Prof.
Mohammed Hamdan
Prof. Hamdan was born on 3 November
1934. He is married with two children. He speaks Arabic, English and French.
Dr Hamdan was awarded a BSc in Mathematics from
Cairo University (1957) and a PhD in Statistics from Sydney University (1963).
He is since 1998, Secretary General of the Higher
Council for Science and Technology in Jordan. Before that Dr Hamdan was Minister of
Education and Higher Education(1998), President of the Hashemite University (1991-1998),
Minister of Education and Higher Education (1989-1991), President of Yarmouk University
(1986-1989), Professor of Mathematics and Dean of the Faculty of Sciences, University of
Jordan (1984-1986), Professor of Mathematics; American University of Cairo (1977-1978),
American University of Beirut (1976-1977), Associate Professor of Mathematics at the AUB
(1970-1976) and Visiting Professor at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University
(1969-1971).
Prof. Hamdan is member of the International
Statistical Institute, American Statistical Association, Third World Academy of Sciences,
Jordan Academy of Arabic language, Union of Arab Physicists and Mathematicians and Sigma
Xi. He is also member of the Board of Trustees of the Hitteen, Ibn Khaldoun and Al-Razi
community college in Jordan.
Over sixty technical paper and notes were authored
by Dr Hamdan in addition to his editorial responsibilities with the following journals:
International Statistical Review, Arab Journal of Mathematics, Mutah Journal of
Research and Studies and the Research Journal of the University of Jordan.
Prof. Hamdan is an elected Fellow of the Islamic
Academy of Sciences (1990), and Council Member (1994-1999). |
