Prof. Kazem
Behbehani
Prof. Kazem Behbehani was elected a
Fellow of the Islamic Academy of Sciences in 1992.
Prof. Behbehani attained his MSc in Medical
Parasitology from the University of Liverpool in 1969, and his PhD in Immunology in 1972
form London University. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists
(MRCPath).
Prof. Behbehani has authored one book on Science and
Technology as well as more than 100 scientific papers published in international journals.
Currently, Prof. Behbehani is Director of the
Eastern Mediterranean Liaison Office and in charge of Resource Mobilization for the
Eastern Mediterranean Region at the World Health Organization (WHO), Geneva, Switzerland.
During his term at the WHO since 1991, he was Programme Manager, Special Programme for
Research and Training Tropical Diseases (1991-1994) and Director of Tropical Diseases
(1994-1999).
Prof. Behbehani is a member of many national and
international organizations such as the British Society of Parasitology, the American
Society for Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, the Electron Microscopy Society of America as
well as the European Academy of Arts, Science and Humanities, Paris, France.
Among the pervious posts occupied by Prof. Behbehani
was that of Deputy Director General, Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR) and
Vice Rector for research at Kuwait University, Kuwait.
Prof. Behbehani was an awardee of a Kuwait
University scholarship as well as the best research award in Medicine, which was awarded
to him by the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS). |
